CONSCIOUS CHRISTMAS GIFT GUIDE

CONSCIOUS CHRISTMAS GIFT GUIDE

Ditch the high street mayhem and shop locally and directly from small independent businesses this year.

For the foodie

A voucher or trip to their favourite eatery, mine being The Saucy Cow (if any pals are reading) at the new Bernard Shaw in Phibsborough. Can't think of a much better evening this time of year than vegan burgers, drinks and music with friends. From €8

For the wine lover

A bottle of wine is a delightful and recyclable gift. Choose a wine from your local small wine shop instead of a chain supermarket. I love Loose Canon on Drury St. From €21

For the new vegan

A vegan cookbook of course! Holly White's Vegan-ish is perfect for those new to the lifestyle or even trying Veganuary next month. She has a section on shopping lists, vegan staples and making the transition plus many gorgeous recipes and photos I have tried and loved myself. From €22

For the yogi

A voucher or month's membership for their nearest studio is a great sustainable (packaging free!) gift for any yoga lovers in your life. My local studio is Yoga Dublin who have 3 locations, multiple classes and workshops plus amazing teachers. They also have mats, props and essential oils to purchase. From €25

For the fitness fanatic

A box of our power balls made without refined sugar or gluten is a perfect pre or post work out treat. They can be shipped to any address around the country so are perfect for surprising that special someone. From €23.90

For the coffee lover

My local coffee shop Grindstone are doing christmas coffee blends, at home brewing kits and handmade cards this year. They are dog friendly, serve delicious coffee and stock our treats so you and your pup can stay fuelled while you browse. Grindstone is easy to get to by Luas, hop off at Balally stop and find it at the top of the stairs. From €12

For the peanut butter lover

Nutshed are doing peanut butter subscriptions this year. Like your fave magazine subscription but edible?! Yes please. The only problem I would have is making 2 delicious jars last til the next month! From €10/month

For the sustainable one

For that friend or family member who is getting into sustainable living, you can't go wrong with a trip to Reuzie in Foxrock Village. They have a wide selection of sustainable swaps from kitchen essentials to bathroom products, baby basics and eco cleaning materials (though maybe this last one doesn't send the best christmas message!) Reuzie also has a rainbow of keepcups in different sizes! From €5

For the hard to buy for one

One of our stockists Pepper Laine in Dalkey have a gorgeous sustainable section to their coffee shop. They have a selection of eco-conscious stocking fillers, small gifts such as candles and soaps, keep cups, kids clothes, local art and books  - there is something for everyone. Plus they have our vegan mince pies and spelt muffins alongside lovely coffee and a cosy, relaxing atmosphere. From €4

For the skincare obsessed

My FAVE skincare brand is Byron Bay based Dollar Hippy Club. They are 98% vegan, all natural ingredients and packaged in glass/hemp/recycled card products which actually work! I know I have many Australian readers and Irish who have friends in Aus. This year I will be sending some beautiful DHC products to my friends on the other side of the world rather than shipping them packages from Ireland. From $14 AUD

For the bookworm

Support small independent bookstores this year instead of the chaos of chain shops or the uninspiring online stores. These important small businesses have been suffering in the past decade and if we keep giving our money to big corporations (cough, amazon) we will blink and find they have died out alongside video rental stores. Small bookstores have so much character, employee knowledge and often a second hand section to save even more € and the planet. From €10.

For the home cook

McNally Family Farm have a range of hampers and organic cotton gift bags this year with different pantry staples like their own organic jams, pickles, sauces and other products from Irish producers. This would make the loveliest gift for anyone you know who enjoys cooking and keeping a well stocked kitchen! Pick them up from their farm shop or at any of their markets in Dublin - Naomh Olaf, Temple Bar or Dun Laoghaire. From €15
